The Brunello di Montalcino La Poderina is a wine made entirely from Sangiovese Grosso grapes, a specific variety used for the production of one of the most famous Italian wines. The vineyards are located in the area of Castelnuovo dell'Abate, in the estate that not only gives its name to the wine but is also situated about forty kilometers from Montalcino, an area historically recognized for its great elegance and harmony that it imparts to the grapes. In this context, the hills alternate, creating gentle landscapes, and being oriented differently, they manage to enjoy various microclimates, all of which benefits the qualitative yield of the Sangiovese that grows and thrives here.
The Poderina Brunello di Montalcino begins with the harvest, which is done only manually, so as to already select in the vineyard those that will be the fruits that will go to the winery for processing. It is the steel tanks that care for the grape berries, which will remain in contact with the skins and under controlled temperature (24°-28° C) while waiting for fermentation. Subsequently, with still a discreet presence of fine lees, the wine is transferred to wood where malolactic fermentation will take place, undergoing constant batonnage every 4 weeks. Once this process is completed, the final aging will follow for another 20 months always inside oak barrels.
The Brunello di Montalcino from La Poderina Tenute del Cerro is a wine with intense garnet red color and elegant garnet hues. The nose brings us to a blackberry and cherry jam supported by a spicy backbone with vanilla contours, closing the profile is a toasted vein of tobacco leaves and coffee. The taste-olfactory profile presents a strong structure at the beginning that smoothens thanks to the work of the silky well-integrated tannins making the sip persistent and with a deep texture. This Brunello certainly has interesting traits to capture immediately, but if one has the strength to wait for the work of time, then it is certain that one will encounter a product that reflects the historical values of a territory that has entered the elite of world wine thanks to its faithful squire: Sangiovese.
