Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 'Lupi e Sirene' Podere Le Ripi 2018
Artisanal"Lupi e Sirene" by Podere Le Ripi is a powerful and elegant Brunello di Montalcino Riserva: the enological jewel of this winery, able to evolve over time. It opens to a dark and silky colour with pretty fruity accents of ripe berries and black currants and after shifts attention to mineral, gardenia, fern, aniseed and licorice notes. The sip reaches an high level of intensity and richness with silky texture and very long persistence.
The Brunello di Montalcino Riserva “Lupi e Sirene” from the Podere Le Ripi winery is a red of great intensity and elegance produced in the southern part of the municipality of Montalcino, in Toscana. This label is made from pure Sangiovese grapes from old vines trained as bush vines at over 350 meters above sea level on soils characterized by limestone and clay. The winery is a reality of 54 hectares, of which 31 are planted with vines, currently owned by Francesco Illy, a coffee entrepreneur who has challenged himself to achieve excellence in wine as well, starting the conversion to organic, achieved in 2014, and adopting the principles prescribed by biodynamic agriculture.
The “Lupi e Sirene” Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is produced with carefully selected grapes harvested by hand generally around the first decade of October. The bunches brought to the winery are destemmed and gently crushed to then undergo alcoholic fermentation, using exclusively indigenous yeasts, in oak barrels with frequent pump-overs and a maceration on the skins of about 35 days. Then, the wine is racked with pressing of the skins, after which it remains in aging in large oak barrels for at least 36 months, then passing into concrete tanks where it rests for another 12 months before being bottled. Maturation continues for another 12 months in bottle before being released for sale.
The Brunello di Montalcino “Lupi e Sirene” Riserva from Podere Le Ripi presents itself to the eye with a bright ruby red color, with slight garnet reflections. On the nose, intense aromas of ripe fruit appear, including cherry, blackcurrant, blackberry, raspberry, and plum, floral notes of violet and dried flowers, hints of oriental spices and underbrush, finishing with balsamic hints, coffee, and noble woods. On the palate, it is rich, opulent, structured, and complex, characterized by very dense and smooth tannins and a beautiful freshness, at times saline, that refreshes the palate giving verticality to the sip. This Riserva from Podere Le Ripi is a Brunello of undeniable substance, harmonious, refined and balanced, made as it once was with artisanal methods.
