The Chardonnay 'Caliz' from Cantina Kurtatsch is a tribute to the Alto Adige terroir: the name evokes "calix", the chalice, and "calx", the limestone. Pure Chardonnay cultivated on gravelly soils with a high percentage of limestone-dolomite, it is a fine wine with a mountainous character. The nose reveals intriguing tropical hints of bananas and pineapples. With slight spicy hints on the finish that betray the fermentation in wood. The sip is fresh, surprisingly aromatic, and has a long finish, with pronounced and savory minerality.

The Chardonnay 'Caliz' from Cantina Kurtatsch is a bottle with a fine, balanced taste, the perfect introduction to the beautiful world of South Tyrolean Chardonnay. In particular, this label belongs to the 'Selection' line, a collection that encompasses the first selection from the Kurtatsch vineyards, the result of precise and sustainable viticulture, low yields and careful vinification. As for the name 'Caliz', this derives from the Latin words 'calix' and 'calx', with the former meaning 'chalice' and the latter 'limestone'.

The 'Caliz' Cantina Kurtatsch Chardonnay originates exclusively from Chardonnay grapes from vineyards planted on clay, sandy and gravelly soils rich in dolomite. The altitude is between 250 and 400 metres above sea level and the exposure is south-east. Once harvested, the grapes are vinified using the white wine method through gentle pressing and alcoholic fermentation of the must at a controlled temperature, partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in large oak casks. Once the fermentation process is complete, the wine is left to rest on its fine lees in steel containers for a few months until bottling.

On visual examination, the 'Caliz' Chardonnay of Cantina Kurtatasch shows an intense straw yellow colour. The aromatic bouquet offers intense hints of citrus fruits and exotic fruits such as banana and pineapple, complemented by delicate hints of cinnamon. On the palate, it is fresh and very aromatic, with a balanced drinkability and a long, almost salty finish that reveals a distinct mineral profile. Thanks to its balanced taste, this South Tyrolean Chardonnay can be paired with a wide range of dishes, from simple fresh and lightly matured cheeses to elaborate seafood main courses.
