Lagrein Riserva 'Vigna Klosteranger' Muri - Gries 2021
The Lagrein Riserva 'Vigna Klosteranger' Muri - Gries is an elegant and expressive red wine, produced from Lagrein grapes grown in the historic vineyard of the winery, within the ancient walls of the convent. Deep, austere, round, and intense, with a persistent finish and well-structured tannins, it expresses complex notes of berries, coffee, and tobacco on the nose. A wine that can evolve over time in the cellar, to be paired with rich and flavorful dishes based on red meat or game.
The Lagrein Riserva 'Vigna Klosteranger' produced in Alto Adige by the viticultural and monastic reality of Muri - Gries constitutes a precious expression of the territory that stands out for its intensity and richness. The 'Klosteranger' vineyard, from which the best Lagrein grapes cultivated by the estate come, represents the flagship of the Muri - Gries winery-convent. The vineyard, dating back to the 18th century, is located right at the gates of the monastery, in the heart of the historic Gries district of Bolzano, and is protected by the convent walls.
The 'Vigna Klosteranger' Muri - Gries Lagrein Riserva is a 100% Lagrein from a single vineyard planted at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level on alluvial soils rich in quartz porphyry. In the cellar, the grapes are traditionally red vinified through alcoholic and malolactic fermentation carried out in stainless steel tanks. After the fermentation processes are complete, the wine is transferred to new oak barriques for the long aging of 22 months preceding the final bottling.
In the glass, the 'Vigna Klosteranger' Lagrein Riserva from Muri - Gries exhibits an intense garnet-red mantle with a dark ruby core. The rich and complex aromatic bouquet expresses vivid hints of ripe red fruits, sour cherry, tobacco, chocolate, and coffee, combined with undertones of undergrowth. The taste development is soft and structured, elegant and full-bodied, with a pleasant freshness and a balanced and persistent tannic texture characterizing the long epilogue, in which the sensations of ripe fruit and chocolate perceived on the nose return. Due to its significant structure, this Lagrein pairs well with rich dishes such as braised red meats or game.
