The Lugana “Prestige” from the Cà Maiol winery is a young and delicate white wine that positively benefits from the microclimate of Lake Garda, which, thanks to its ability to mitigate temperatures and act, with its surface mass, as a mirror, radiates more light to the vines and clusters, contributing to their optimal development in terms of aromaticity and sugar concentration. This label is made from pure Trebbiano di Lugana grapes, also known by the ancient Roman name Turbiana, coming from vineyards located just a few steps from the lake in the municipality of Desenzano del Garda at about 200 meters above sea level and trained using the double guyot method on soils characterized by clay-rich soils. The winery, owner of about 130 hectares of vineyards, was established several years ago as a family business and is now part of the Santa Margherita wine group, one of the most important in terms of revenue in Italy. The production is directed towards innovation and renewal, with the final goal of constantly improving its production excellence.
The “Prestige” Lugana is produced with grapes harvested and carefully selected by hand around the first decade of September. The clusters, brought to the winery, undergo destemming and soft pressing before undergoing alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel containers for several weeks. The wine is then racked and aged in stainless steel tanks for several months, after which it is filtered, clarified, bottled, and remains to mature in the bottle for an additional 6 months before being released for sale.
The Lugana “Prestige” from Cà Maiol presents itself with a straw-yellow color tending towards golden. On the nose, intense aromas of crisp fruit and citrus appear, including green apple, kiwi, and lime, fresh floral notes of lavender and Mediterranean herbs, including thyme, spicy hints of white pepper, enriched by a slight touch of moss and green herbs. On the palate, it is soft, fresh, and balanced, with a persistent finish and pleasant minerality and a slightly almond-like aftertaste.
