The Perricone “Guarnaccio” is born from the vineyards of the Tenuta Regaleali of Tasca d’Almerita, cultivated since 1954 with this ancient Sicilian grape variety. The San Lucio vineyard was created thanks to a patient mass selection work, which allowed the selection of the vines with the best bunches, qualitatively richer from an aromatic point of view. The name Guarnaccio comes from the term by which this grape has always been called at Regaleali and still today symbolizes the bond with the splendid territory of the Madonie. The “Guarnaccio” perfectly expresses the lively and exuberant character of the grape variety, which gives wines with fragrant fruit and pleasant spicy notes.
The “Guarnaccio” is born in this corner of Sicily with a particular character, among woods and mountains, with a warm and breezy climate but characterized by significant temperature fluctuations between day and night. The vineyards are located 500 meters above sea level, on clay-limestone soils particularly suited for red grape varieties. The choice to keep the yields per hectare below 70 quintals ensures an excellent quality of the grapes, with rich and concentrated aromas. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 25/30 °C, with a maceration period on the skins of about two weeks. The wine matures in second and third passage French oak barriques for about 12 months, in order to preserve the varietal character of the Perricone, without too many tertiary influences.
The Perricone from Tasca d'Almerita is a pleasant surprise for those who love reds rich in personality and character, but also elegant and smooth, making pleasantness and drinkability their strong point. It has an intense ruby color. The bouquet is intriguing, with spicy notes, balsamic hints, and herbal scents, on a background of small red fruit and underbrush. The sip is of vital freshness, with harmonious fruit, a beautifully structured tannic weave, and a final return on spicy notes. A medium-structured red, fragrant and crunchy, perfect for pairing with a platter of tasty local cured meats, grilled or roasted meats.
