
Pinot Nero 'Pernero' Travaglino 2024
The Pinot Noir 'Pernero' by Travaglino is a young red wine that is easy to approach for those who want to start getting closer to the world of red wines. Fresh, fragrant, and juicy, the aging in steel preserves all the aromaticity of the grape variety, expressed in a rich and fragrant bouquet, where notes of wild strawberry, blackberry, raspberry, and violet stand out. The Pinot Nero “Pernero” from Tenuta Travaglino is the most young and fragrant expression of the famous French grape variety, which has been present in these lands for centuries. The area of Oltrepò Pavese boasts the largest area cultivated with Pinot Nero, which has found an ideal habitat for its needs among these hills. The cool climate, characterized by good temperature excursions, and the suitable soils allow for excellent ripening of the grapes with very elegant aromatic profiles. The choice of vinification only in steel allows for the appreciation of the typical varietal aromas of Pinot Nero, its delicate notes of small forest fruits, floral nuances, and its lively freshness, which gives dynamism and momentum to the sip.
“Pernero” is a Pinot Nero from Tenuta Travaglino, the oldest winery in Oltrepò Pavese, which has been dedicated to viticulture and wine production for centuries, in this beautiful hilly territory of the southernmost area of Lombardy. The 80 hectares of the property are managed with great care, following integrated pest management practices, in order to minimize the impact of agricultural activities on the environment. The wine is produced with grapes from the vineyards Pinot Nero Pozion, Mulinino, and Ca’ Nova, which are located at an altitude of about 200-250 meters above sea level, with a sunny exposure facing southwest. The soils are of a calcareous-clay matrix, with the presence of sands and pebbles, particularly suitable for the Burgundy grape variety. The grapes are destemmed and then sent for fermentation in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 22-24 °C with maceration on the skins for a few weeks. The wine matures for 6 months in steel tanks on the fine lees and is bottled in the spring following the harvest.
