Syrah 'Prodigo' Donato Giangirolami 2021

The Syrah “Prodigo” by Donato Giangirolami manages to extract the spicy, full-bodied, and deep character of the Lazio land. The winery extends in the area of the Castelli Romani and in Cori. It dedicates its land to international varieties that, here, learn to express themselves in an identity-laden Lazio dialect. The owned vineyards are managed with great environmental respect, implemented through a method of organic cultivation and supported by modern technologies. 80 hectares make up the company’s surface, 38 of which are dedicated to the vineyard. The remaining part is enriched by kiwi plantations, symbolizing a variety in the agronomic activity carried out and in the surrounding environment.

“Prodigo” by Donato Giangirolami is a pure Syrah, coming from the area known as Le Ferriere. Here, the soils are characterized by a sandy and clayey composition, and the density of plants that inhabit them is 4000 vines per hectare of cultivated land. The harvest takes place at the end of September. After pressing the grapes, the must obtained is placed to macerate and ferment inside stainless steel containers. In these, the wine remains to complete its winemaking process with aging.

Donato Giangirolami Syrah “Prodigo” presents in the glass an intense ruby red color. On the nose, it reveals a layered bouquet with fruity tones of cherry and small red fruits, plum and dried roses, black pepper and incense, on a slightly pungent background of aromatic herbs. On the palate, it confirms the distinctive trait of intensity, traceable in the full body and the softness of the sip, as well as in the freshness balanced with the alcoholic content. It finishes by bringing forth, as a reminder of a marked and indelible imprint, a blend of fruity and balsamic notes.
