The Timorasso "Derthona" by Vite Colte is a white wine from the Tortona area, 'Derthona' is indeed the medieval name of the town. The Timorasso was at risk of disappearing, but the skilled winemakers of Tortona saved the grape variety, which today is increasingly establishing itself as one of the great whites of Piedmont and Italy. On the nose, it reveals an intense floral and fruity bouquet, with complementary hints of honey and slight notes of flint stone on the finish. On the palate, it is complex, full-bodied and warm, the sip is material and persistent. A wine of substance that pairs well with intense dishes, such as veal with tuna sauce, or with spicy dishes.
The Timorasso Derthona from the extensive winemaking reality of Vite Colte in Piemonte stands out for its floral and mineral aromatic profile, typical descriptors of the grape variety. Vite Colte is a cooperative winery among the most important in all of Italy, located in the municipality of Barolo, in the Langhe, but dedicated to producing the major denominations of Lower Piemonte, including the Colli Tortonesi Derthona. This denomination falls within the province of Alessandria, precisely in the area of the city of Tortona, known as Derthona in ancient times.
Vite Colte Derthona Timorasso is produced exclusively from grapes of the same indigenous variety grown in predominantly clay soils, with a good limestone content. In the winery, the bunches are first subjected to a gentle pressing, followed by a few hours of cold pre-fermentation maceration. The only must obtained from the first pressing of the mass is fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 16-18 °C. Subsequently, the liquid is left to mature for at least a year on the fine lees always in steel until the final bottling.
The Derthona Timorasso from the cooperative winery Vite Colte has an intense straw yellow color. On the nose, floral notes of hawthorn and acacia flowers are perceived, combined with hints of yellow peach and citrus honey. Clear mineral puffs of flint complete the olfactory context. Tasting of good body and complexity, savory and aromatically persistent, with a fresh mineral finish that balances the important structure. This is a Timorasso of excellent longevity and balance that can be paired with creamy risottos, flavorful seafood preparations, and even white meats.
